IFK Göteborg vs. BK Häcken - Home win

2nd place Göteborg are hosts to 6th place Häcken today.

Göteborg are 2 points behind IF Elfsborg who are visiting last year's champions Kalmar FF. It is a tough game for IF Elfsborg and Göteborg will be aiming at the 3 points if they are to regain the 1st spot on the table.

Göteborg have won their last 6 home games; conceding only twice and making 15 goals. Since the start of the season, they score an average of 3 goals per home match and only concede 0.25 (soccerway.com).

Compared to that, Häcken score an average of 0.75 goals at their away games and concede an average of 1.5. They are poor in their away matches with only 2 wins and 1 draw out of their last 6, but they are confidently sitting at the 7th place of the league enjoying their promotion from the Superettan.

Häcken's away performance should not be taken for granted, as they thrashed Göteborg 4-1 in April. Out the last 10 Göteborg vs Häcken encounters; Häcken were played as visitors 5 times. Göteborg won three and Häcken managed to leave with 1 point twice (once in 1998 & once in 2001).

It does not look like Göteborg are going to let this game slip out of their hands for two reasons. Firstly, because of their lust for points to regain 1st place in the table and secondly, because they want to take revenge for their 4-1 April loss.

Moment of truth on Saturday morning and over 2.5 goals on the Molde vs Start encounter looks promising.

According to soccerway.com, 2nd place Molde score 2.11 goals on average at home and concede 1.22. 4th place Start average 1.44 goals away and concede 1.89.

Mixed reactions from their head to heads though. Out of their last 5 matches, only 2 games finished over 2.5 goals (2-2 on 15/06/09 and 3-2 on 01/10/2006).

However, if we look at the 6 last league games in the league; Start have been leaking goals away and Molde look like they are very strong at home (only 2 out of their last 6 games finished at under 2.5 goals).

Finally, comparing Betvirus vs Bookies probabilities: Over 2.5 goals (Betvirus---66%; Bookies---69%) vs Under 2.5 goals (Betvirus---34%; Bookies---36%). Over-round at 5%.

At generally 1.47, a £5 punt will give a £2.35 profit.

Looking through your strategy I can't help but find it all to be a large mistake. When Man Utd win you are counting the stake to be part of the profit. Therefore over the season you would stake £190 (this is 38 games multiplied by £5) and return £141.65 - a loss of £48.35.

jack thanks for your email. I didn't mean to mislead you. Having read your comment on betting strategy no.1, I think that you have double counted the stake on the lost bets.
Doing a quick check and not taking into account the Portsmouth win; man u have played 37 games and won 27 of them. I've already subtracted £5 per lost game to get to £141.65, so subtracting our £5 stake for the 27 games they won (27x5=135) we have a £6.65 profit at the end of the season; assuming £5 bet per game.
I understand that this is not so much, but it is a guaranteed profit assuming that they do not lose more than 10 games per season.
Given that arsenal, Liverpool and chelsea are tough away and home matches for man u; you can avoid betting on them so as to increase your profit.
Every year, targets 4 competitions; the premier league, champions league, the fa cup and carling cup. As you know, some of these include group or league matches and others knock out games. To form this strategy, I only looked at the premier league. It can therefore be argued that you can have a profit from the premier league added to your profit from their champions league performance also added to your profit when betting on them to win carling cup and fa cup games. Of course, as before, you can avoid betting on their competitive matches so as to minimise your risk of losing.
Try to do the same with chelsea, liverpool, inter milan, Barcelona, real Madrid.......and your profit will accumulate.
Your stake is also proportionate to your profit. Altough I would not recommend it, your profit will increase tenfold if you bet £50 per game.
As a final thought, this betting strategy is the result of a very basic research that I have done on last year's man u premier league games only. This can be extended to find much more information to feel more confident on their expected performance and this of course can be done for all 8-12 top European teams that have high budgets and target 3-4 competitions every year. Hope this is of assistance. I will also publish this as a post on the blog.

Comparing Betvirus to Bookies probabilities, these are set at the same level. Home win (Betvirus---54% vs Bookies---57%); Draw (Betvirus---29% vs Bookies---28%); Away win (Betvirus---17% vs Bookies---19%).

On Saturday, Haka was given the same probability to win but they blew it. Therefore, 57% probability for the home win does not ooze confidence but the odds are right and they are shortening. £5 bet will give us a £3.75 profit.....

Haven't written all week and I missed you guys (all 20 - 30 that follow this blog). Therefore, for today I thought I would give you a treat: the much anticipated 1st betting strategy of the blog and two games for today.

Let's start then:

Haka Valkeakoski vs. VPS Vaasa - Since 2006, VPS has travelled to Valkeakoski four times. They've lost 4 times (1-0, 1-0, 4-1, 4-1).

Haka are 2nd in the league, trailing 3 points behind league leaders HJK and 1 point ahead of 3rd place TPS. They are very strong at home with 4 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw out of their last 6 home games. They lost against TPS last weekend and this looks to me like a serious drop of points for them.

Haka should go offensive today and the bookies give them a 57% probability to win. They also offer 3.75 (27%) for the draw and 5.5 (18%) for VPS to win.

£5 punt as usual to give us a profit of about £3.75.

Kalmar FF vs. IF Brommapojkarna - Reigning champions Kalmar are trying to find their way up to the top of the league from 5th place. They're 4 points away from leaders Goteborg and today, they're hosting 12th place Brommapojkarna.

Having come up from Superettan (Sweden's equivalent of Championship), Brommapojkarna are not doing badly. They're still in the points and they manage to get vital points away. They picked up 8 points out their last 6 away games, losing only to 1st place Goteborg and 7th place Gelfe.

Looking at their match history, only 1 Kalmar away win and 1 Brommapojkarna away draw separates the two teams.

Given Kalmar's lust for points, the bookies give a 67% probability for the home win, 24% probability for the draw and 13% probability for the away win. £5 bet on the home win will give us a £2.65 profit from this game.

So good luck and finger's crossed for both Haka and Kalmar today guys.........

Trelleborgs FF vs. Örebro SK - Under 2.5 goals

Really devastated with today's Lokomotiv result. 0-0 after 90 minutes and lost £5 for a cheap possible return of about £2!!!!

Putting this aside, let's look at tomorrow's matches. Sweden's Allsvenskan gives us a good chance to up our game and make up for today's loss. 7th place Trelleborgs host 8th place Örebro on a game that has finished over 2.5 goals once in their 8 encounters. 3-3 in August last year.

Looking at both teams' last 6 matches; Trelleborgs has a worrying 2 out 6 matches with under 2.5 goals and Örebro an encouraging 5 out of 6.

It's a bit of a mix but looking at the odds, we have: 7% over round, 65% probability for the match to finish with under 2.5 goals and 42% for the match to finish under 2.5.

It's a tough call, but in my humble opinion it is a Swedish match between the 7th and the 8th in the league team. You can argue that there is always a lot of goals in Sweden, but - according to soccerway stats - Trelleborgs score an average of 1.83 goals at home and concede a mere average of 0.33 goals. Örebro score an average of 0.33 goals away and concede an average of 0.83 goals.

Therefore a game between two defensive teams which have, this far, gathered the same amount of points in the league should not be full of goals. Last year, they had two points separating them and they finished in 10th and 7th place respectively.

Lokomotiv Moskva vs. Tom Tomsk - Home win

An impressive 6-1 Kalmar win today and £3.1 profit.

Risking £5 in Lokomotiv tomorrow at 1.45 looks safe.

They're sitting at mid table (9th place) of the Russian Premier and they look very strong at home. Only drew twice in their last 6 home matches against Zenit and Khimki. However, when looking at the stats, the Khimki draw worried me a little bit.

I felt more confident when looking at their head to head (Lokomotiv vs Tom Tomsk) games. 2wins, 1 draw and 1 loss for Lokomotiv and Lokomotiv had an advantage.

Coupled with this, there is a reason why the bookies gave Tom Tomsk a 9/1 chance to win. They are weak at their travels since they only managed to gather 2 points in their last 6 away games.

2% over-round and the bookies do not make it difficult for us to predict. Home win and £5 punt for tomorrow.

Kalmar FF vs. Djurgårdens IF - Home win

Lost count of the profit we've made so far, so - from now on - I'm thinking of putting up a table on the side of the blog to log our cumulative profit.

Mind you that I'm also preparing a betting strategy for the upcoming Premier League season. A bit conservative but it gives us a healthy profit at the end of the season. I've chosen Premier League as an example but it can also be applied to any other major European league, provided that the same background research is done. It should be published by mid next week.

So back to tomorrow's game now. Kalmar against Djurgårdens and the home win looks decent at, generally, 1.62. A £5 bet will make a good £3.1 contribution to our above mentioned, newly formed profit table.

Kalmar's season has been bumpy so far, but they managed to climb to 5th place. Last year's champions are very good at home. Lost 2 out their 6 home matches against superior opposition to 14th place Djurgårdens. For your record, 9th place Halmstad and 3rd place AIK.

Djurgårdens have only picked up a point in their last 6 away matches. Their performance doesn't give much confidence to the bookies either, who - on average - give them a 6% possibility to win this game. Kalmar are given a 62% chance to win the match and the draw is at 27%, giving us an over round of 5%.

£5 punt as usual and fingers crossed so as to avoid any upsets......

Notodden FK vs. Bryne FK - Over 2.5 goals

There are not a lot of games on this week, so we have to compromise with some slim pickings.

Division 1 14th place Notodden hosts 12th place Bryne and the final result odds do not ooze confidence. Home win (Bookies---44% vs Betvirus---45%); Draw (Bookies---29% vs Betvirus---19%); Away win (Bookies---31% vs Betvirus---36%).

On the other hand, there is some light in tunnel when looking at the over / under 2.5 goals. Under 2.5 goals (Bookies---44% vs Betvirus---47%); over 2.5 goals (Bookies---61% vs Betvirus---53%).

The conclusion; the 10% increase on the draw looks tempting but still keeps the bar of probabilities on 29%. Go for the usual £5 punt on over 2.5 goals bearing in my mind that their last 4 head to head games finished---7-0, 1-1, 3-2, 1-1.

FK Bodo Glimt vs. Molde FK - Away win

2nd place Molde away at 15th place Glimt and we can hopefully increase our £6.5 profit by betting on the away team.

Molde have a decent run in their away matches, with 3wins, 2 draws and a loss in their last 6 games. They drew against 5th place Start and 1st place Rosenborg and lost against 7th place Brann.

In their last 6 home matches, Glimt only showed their teeth to 6th place Stabaek, 13th place Aalesunds and 14th place Stromsgodset.

Looks like the scales lean towards a Molde win. This is also reinforced by their head to head encounter. 4wins, 2 draws and 2 losses for Molde.

I looked at this game last night and I intentionally waited until today to see how the odds are going to move. Since yesterday, there is a small move in Molde's probabilities to win, a 1% decline on Glimt chances to win and a 2% decline on the draw.

It makes sense to me, therefore bet the usual £5 for the away win.

Tampere United vs. JJK Jyvaskyla - Home win

Tampere United should not have a problem against JJK. Comparing the final result probabilities given by Betvirus that looks at team performance and by the bookies through odd comparison site oddchecker.com, we have:

Home win (Bookies---73% vs Betvirus 72%); Draw (Bookies---21% vs Betvirus---08%); Away win (Bookies---9% vs Betvirus---20%).

Tampere Utd have lost once in their last 6 home matches. They're very strong at home and they look like they mainly throw away points away. They fell short to 8th place Lahti, 4th place IFK and 2nd place HJK.

JJK look poor away. 1 draw out of their last 5 away matches and 1 win in their last 6 matches does not look healthy.

The odds are low but worth placing a bet on this. £5 in the black and £5 punt as usual to the home team.

Crunching the numbers for tomorrow's Norwegian Division 1 game between Ham-Kam and Moss, the home win is a safe bet and a no-brainer.

Home win (Bookies---67% vs Bdtvirus---56%); Draw (Bookies---27% vs Betvirus---20%); Away win (Bookies---15% vs Betvirus---24%)

12th place Moss has only picked up 2 points from their last 5 away games. They managed to draw against 11th place Bryne and 15th place Stavager.

Ham-Kam on the other side have lost 2 of their last 6 home games. They lost to 4th and 5th place Haugesund and Nybergsund respectively.

Last year, both teams finished close in the league. Ham-Kam's 9th and Moss's 11th place reveal that the home win on tomorrow's game is not to be taken for granted. Mind you, two draws and one Norwegian Cup Ham-Kam win in their head to head.

To conclude, the bookies do not want to lose money. To have lowered the odds that much, one could think two things: (a) Moss are very bad away so no win or draw for them (b) they have injury or some other sort of problems.

We are £3.5 in the black. Worst case scenario on placing a £3.5 bet on the home win is to get even stevens.

Molde FK vs. FC Lyn Oslo - Home win

TPS has given us a healthy profit today and we didn't have to sweat for it.

Looking at tomorrow's Norwegian fixtures, 2nd place Molde play bottom of the league Lyn.

Molde look like they have a decent run on the league (8W, 4D, 3L) compared to Lyn who only have 1 win in their last 15 games. They managed to beat 2nd bottom FK Bodo but the rest of their results are as follows: 8 draws & 6 losses.

Molde at home has 3 wins (2 in their last 2 home matches), 2 draws, 2 losses. Lyn away is struggling with 1 win, 3 draws and 4 losses (in their last 4 aways matches).

Crunching the numbers looks like as follows: Home win (Betvirus---48% vs Bookies---69%); Draw (Betvirus---36% vs Bookies---27%); Away win (Betvirus---16% vs Bookies---17%)

Lyn have an advantage in their head to head (5W, 1D, 2L) but at the moment they are consistently bad. With a 3% over-round and the numbers stacking up for Molde the normal £5 punt leans towards the home team.

TPS Turku vs. MyPa Anjalankoski - Home win

After 11 games played, TPS stand in the 3rd place in the league with 19 points. Their home form is good as they are generally winning 50% of their home games. Their home draws against 6th place FF Jaro and 12th place JJK were disappointing but they look like they bounced back out this. In their last 6 home and away games, they won 4, drew 1 against 2nd place IFK and lost 1 against 4ht place Inter Turku.

MyPA have played 10 games in the league so far and they have not picked up many points away. The bookies are not so impressed either, giving them a 27% chance to win.

It must be noted though that out of the last 9 head to head games between TPS and MyPA, MyPA has 3 times managed to take full points away at TPS. 4 TPS wins and 2 draws were the full time results on their remaining head to head games.

Crunching the number: Home win (Betvirus---39% vs Bookies---53%); Draw (Betvirus---40% vs Bookies---31%); Away win (Betvirus---20% vs Bookies---27%)

Two bad teams meeting for what can be a low scoring match. Vaasa the best of the two look like having the upper hand. 4 wins out of their 5 last matches (2 home and 2 away) and one of them against 3rd place Inter Turku.

JJK do not have an impressive away record with 1 draw and 2 losses out of 3 matches.

But, when I crunched the numbers, it got me thinking: Home win (Bookies---57% vs Betvirus---50%---->7% difference); Draw (Bookies---31% vs Betvirus---15%--->a staggering 16% increase); Away win (Bookies---22% vs Betvirus---34%--->12% down).

As a result, I'm not really convinced that Vaasa are going to win it. Therefore, I'm going to go for the draw with a £2 punt.

Odd Grenland Skien vs. Stromsgodset IF - Home win

Time to make up for Sunday's loss. Although we advised our OLBG friends for the Molde win, Sogndal drew. Equalised late in the second half and they did not have time to give us the winner.

Anyway. Focusing on tomorrow's games I look towards Norway again.

Odd Grenland have only lost one of their last five games. Stromsgodset have only picked up a point from their last five away games.

Just commented on Molde vs Fredrikstad match for Norwegian Tippeligaen on OLBG (http://www.online-betting-guide.co.uk/tips/eventinfo.php?t=17:00:00&d=2009-06-21&e=Molde+v+Fredrikstad), but I'm a bit concerned on the 6% over-round on that game.

I'm obsessed with these over-rounds, especially during summer, when there are not many familiar matches to bet on.

So Sogndal vs Bryne:

2% over-round
Sognal very good at home (5 out of 5 home wins); Bryne not performing well away lately (2 out of 5 away wins)
both Sognal and Bryne go to this match with good winning streaks but Sognal are the league leaders and Bryne is in the bottom half of the table
No draw between them in the last 8 matches, but Bryne are ahead in their head to head with 5 out of 8 wins
Sogndal ---bookies give them a 62% probability to win compared to 72% on performance by betvirus.com. Draw (bookies---27%; betvirus---14%). Away win (bookies---20%; betvirus---14%).
Last but not least the distance that the away team has to travel. Norwegian championship and I do not think these teams have an English Premier league status. No offense but think of these guys travelling 270miles to play their game and another 270miles to go back to their homes. Might be a good point, might not......I guess they are professional at the end of the day.

Interesting game. Rosenborg are on a very good winning streak, compared to Aalesunds who are very good at home. Bookies are making the punt easy by giving 1% over-round and give advantage to Rosenborg. Is that a bookies trick or not? I cannot explain, but I think I will bet a fiver on Rosenborg.

Since yesterday we are £2.5 in the red, and a £5 bet on this game will take us on a three-punt winning streak and approximately £1 in the black.

On Sunday, Castellon made it for us and gave us a £3 profit; lowering down our balance to -£5.

Tomorrow's matches look hard to predict. A quick flick through the Russian Division 1 & the FAI Cup and the over-rounds vary from 107% to 111%. I would wager a pound if I wasn't on the red, but no not tomorrow.

CD Castellon vs. SD Eibar - Home win

3% over-round doesn't make it difficult for the punters. Generally at 1.61 (8/13) Castellon is given a 62% chance to win. Betvirus, that calculates probabilities on performance, gives them a 50% chance (http://betvirus.com/matchReview/124841/) which equates to evens (or 2.0).

Looking at the draw. Bookies odds average at about 3.6. This suggests that they think there is a 30% chance for the draw. Betvirus gives a 34% chance.

I'm not going to look at the away win because Betvirus gives a mere 16% for the away win. It's a no brainer that there is a huge drop on the odds for the home win. £5 bet gives about £3 profit.

Not very happy with the Livorno vs Grosseto result, but what can you do?

Tomorrow, I'm going for something safer and I'm turning my eyes to FAI Cup. Cork - generally at 1.5 - should not disappoint. They've had some bad results in the League and I think tomorrow is their time to make a name for themselves.

Sligo Rovers are 7th in the league and at 6/1, they do not look like hopefuls.

Early days for the cup but my gut feeling, backed up by the low odds, is for the home win.

AS Livorno Calcio vs. US Grosseto - under 2.5 goals

After a quite day today, we can rev up tomorrow with something risky.

Serie B second leg play off between Livorno & Grosseto looks tricky to predict. Bookies have Livorno as favourites but the odds given might cause confusion. 7% over-round?????

Grosseto are 2-0 on aggregate and as all Italian teams should be masters of catenazzio (also known as very defensive football). If Livorno, as we expect, goes offensive and push for an early goal they might leave their backs exposed. Grosseto scores and Livorno loses morale and are mathematically hopeless.

If Livorno score first, before the end of the first half, then the game is on. However, scoring an average of 1.38 home goals during last season's league does not look promising. At home, they're good defensively as they only concede 0.9 goals on average. Grosseto do not tend to play aggresively away; 0.9 goals scored and 1.9 goals conceded on average. So there you go.... under 2.5 is risky but worth a wager.

Ham - Kam vs Haugesund 2 -1.

Quids in on yesterday's prediction, although we had to wait until the 74th minute for the 3rd goal. That's about £3.00 profit on a £5 bet. Not bad start for the blog either......

Unfortunately, the odds on the internationals tomorrow look very poor and the neither the Romanian nor the Danish 1st division is my forte.

It looks a bit dim over summer and I don't want to risk any money; especially during the current financial climate. So, think again and take a break tomorrow.

I've been betting for the last 2 years and I haven't had the chance to share my thoughts.

I'm not promising millions and I'm not about to throw my money away. I just want to start a blog for the right psychology to betting.
